Medical Education Unit was started in the year 2010 with Dean, Dr. A.R. Chakravarthy as Chairman of the Unit and Dr. Girija Sivakumar, Professor of Anatomy as Co-ordinator. Members of the Unit undergone faculty training program at Ramachandra Medical College, Porur which was the then nodal center to which our Institution was attached. Later our Institute got attached to the Regional center CMC, Vellore as per the communication (email communication dt. Feb.11, 2011) received from the Academic cell, MCI. The first MET program was conducted on 12th -14th December,2011 with 20 participants and 6 MEU members. The program went on well with the observer Dr. Minnie.Faith, MEU co-ordinator, CMC Vellore appointed by MCI. The program was well appreciated by the Observer with few suggestions to improve the training program and the presentations by MEU members.
The second program was conducted in the month of December 11th -13th,2012 with 8 members in the Unit and 23 participants. The program was well organized with the co-operation of the members and the participants. Dr. Rashmi.f.Vyas was the Observer and she was impressed by the organization of the MEU Unit. Seeing the enthusiasm and interest of the MEU members She gave us very valuable suggestions as how to motivate the MEU members to improve their training methods by attending a numbers workshops and conferences organized by various MEU units at various places of India.
Since then FDP programs are being conducted at regular intervals every year with the participation of 25-30 faculties per program and the strength of the MEU also is being strengthened by making the faculties to undergo training at Regional center (CMC, Vellore) Apart from the Faculty training program, the Unit is conducting various other educational activities like I year MBBS orientation program,Interns Induction and orientation program during their entry into internship, seminars and symposium with stalwarts in medical education as guest speakers, integrated teaching programs etc.,
Faculties are encouraged to pursue higher studies and training programs in medical education. Currently Dr. Roseline,Dr. Girija and Dr. Vadivel are pursuing their Advanced course in Medical Education (FIME) at CMC, Vellore. Dr. Girija is pursuing her International Fellowship program in Medical Education called FAIMER at PSGIMS & R, Coimbatore and she got selected for the year 2015.
At present the Unit has nearly 16 Members with Dr. Sufala Sunil Viswas Rao, Principal as Chairman, Roseline.F.Williams, Professor of Community Medicine as Co-ordinator.
To train the medical teachers with newer techniques in medical education.
To improve the quality of medical teachers through training programs.
To conduct FDP programs to enhance the teaching quality of medical teachers.
To produce competent health cae professionals to meet the need of the society and serve the poor.
To fulfil Institution's goal of creating Healthy India. Wealthy India.
