The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2002. It is affiliated to the Anna University, Chennai and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. The institution is recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), New Delhi. The dignified department possesses on its four pillars of potency - the management, the teachers, students their values and discipline that pave the way for a tough foundation, inculcating visionary ideas with friendship and concord in hard work. Ten batches of students have commendably succeeded from this reputed biotechnology department with flying colors and many were gold medal consignee of the Anna University. Our department serves as a benchmark to all other departments in our institution.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO):
  • Providing graduands with a strong frame work in mathematics, life science, engineering and technology to create enduring foundation in the arena of biotechnology.
  • Inculcating an effective foundation in basic and applied research to protect the environment and serve society with ethical conduct.
  • Instil inventive ideas to promote societal values through technical education in the perspectives of academia and industry.

Programme Outcomes (PO):
  • To apply the knowledge acquired from mathematics, basic sciences and biology oriented engineering to conceptualize technical models and solve complex problems.
  • To identify a problem, review the literature and design an appropriate protocol to analyze and interpret biological data to reach substantiated conclusions by applying natural and engineering sciences.
  • To design a system, a component or a process to meet the preferred needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability.
  • To investigate complex problems and look for various ways of designing the experiments, which may require appropriate mathematical models and computational tools, leading to multiple possible solutions by taking into account various inherent constraints.
  • To create, select and disseminate appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering tools, including prediction, modelling and simulation to address complex engineering activities within the boundaries.
  • To apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • To recognize the influence of conceptualized engineering solutions designed based on the needs of society and environment for continual development.
  • To understand the professional, ethical and legal issues to effectively pursue the norms of engineering practice.
  • To skillfully tackle issues either as an individual or in diverse teams in heterogeneous environment.
  • To develop employability skills for effective communication in the society at large.
  • To demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of management and business practices, such as risk and change management, and understand their limitations.
